Sale of Energy Drinks to Persons Under 18 Will Be Prohibited

The Law HO-134-N of November 24, 2004 "On Trade and Services" defines what constitutes an energy drink.

Energy drinks: alcoholic or non-alcoholic invigorating drinks in which the total amount of caffeine exceeds 150 mg/l, and which contain one or more invigorating substances, or minerals, or easily digestible carbohydrates, or vitamins, or vitamin-like substances, or energy metabolism substrates, or stimulants, including substances (components) of plant origin, with the exception of tea and coffee.

The sale or disposal by any other means of alcoholic beverages and energy drinks to persons under 18 years of age is prohibited.

The sale of alcoholic beverages and energy drinks through automated self-service vending machines and other technical means is prohibited.

Energy drinks displayed for sale must be provided with a segregated consumer shelf (section) marked "Energy Drink". The shelf (section) must feature a legibly and visibly placed notice stating: "Not recommended for use by children under 18 years of age, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as by persons suffering from high nervous irritability, insomnia, or high arterial pressure."

The law enters into force on August 14, 2025.
